Tips to help you work from home with kids during the Corona Virus

April 29, 2020

Social distancing, shelter-in-place, lockdown rules; all these measures to reduce COVID -19 infections are forcing people to work from home.

As we fight this disease, it's great to have everyone home for their safety, but what about work? Most people now have to work from home, and that's never easy when the kids are making a ruckus, and other people in the household are moving around.

If you are struggling to get some peace and quiet in your house to work successfully, do not worry. There are some ways you can get some work done in a full house. Here are some suggestions;

  1. Write up a schedule

One thing's for sure when people in the house are idle, they tend to get on each other's nerves. The best solution for everyone in the house to avoid boredom is a schedule.

Creating a schedule for your kids' routine is easy because there are many things they can do during the day. Would you like to make one? Here are a few examples of things you can add to it.

  • Schoolwork

Some schools are sending assignments online. The internet also has lots of resources that kids can use to learn. It can be beneficial if you let your kids have a few hours of study each day using online resources and any books they have with them.

  • Chores

Now that everyone is at home let them do some housework. Give each person a responsibility, such as dishwashing or vacuuming, to keep them busy.  While they work on their chores, you can take that time to meet some deadlines.

  • Exercise

Instead of letting your family members become couch potatoes, how about you include some time in their schedule for exercise. Aerobics and skipping rope are some great ways to exercise indoors. As they work out, you can work without disturbances. It will be good for their health and great for your peace of mind.

  1. Set up a work station

Where you choose to work in the home will determine whether you can work in peace or not. If you decide to work in the living room, you can 't be surprised when the kids run around you and distract you.

A good idea is to set up your work area in your guest room, basement, or attic away from any disturbances. That will give you the chance to get some work done without any interruptions.

  1. Pre-cook meals

You cannot concentrate on work if your kids and other people in the house are at your elbows, saying they are hungry all the time.

The best way to deal with mealtime challenges that distract you from your job is to prepare home-cooked meals with kids beforehand and pack them away in the fridge. That way, if someone is hungry, they can microwave some food or grab a snack without you having to be there to make it for them.

  1. Use entertainment

All work and no play can drive your kids crazy. And when they get underfoot and distract you from a deadline, it will drive you crazy too.

Entertaining kids at home with family-friendly movies and TV shows is a great way to keep them busy for an hour or two. You could also buy them some interesting board games or puzzles to keep them busy.

  1. Get some help

Working from home and having to keep an eye on the kids at the same time can be overwhelming. If you are feeling this way, an excellent way to get the pressure off yourself is to ask for help.

People are always ready to provide help for moms when they are at home alone with the kids and feeling overwhelmed. For example, extended family members and close neighbors can help. You only need to ask.

Last word

These are five ways you can work at home in peace with the kids around. If you use them, you will find that working successfully from home only requires some organization. Try them and see how it goes.
