Although as a parent you are busy each day with a thousand and one things (or so it feels like); you have to make sure that your family stays active. Apart from helping to keep diseases at bay, it will also contribute heavily to the mental and emotional well-being of your family.

By doing simple things, you can ensure that you and your children maintain good health and an active lifestyle. Here are a few suggestions for you.

  1. Get active and set a good example

Your children take cues from you on how to behave. A great lifestyle you should pass down to them is that of exercising regularly. Don't make a habit of slouching down in front of the TV and computer or else they will learn to do the same.

Ensure you always make time to go out for walks, a run, or even to play basketball or football with your friends. Let your children and spouse join you in such activities and have some fun times together. The whole family will be better for it!

Sometimes creating some form of competition motivates children to participate in outdoor games and activities. Once in a while, you should create such games and play them in your back yard or at the park as a family. You can also incorporate some great workouts in the games.

Why not invite some relatives and friends to the games? You can make lemonade or ice tea, and some healthy snacks, make prizes and small gifts to motivate everyone, and you will have a ball. It's a great way to come together and spend quality time!

Sometimes it's hard to get those kids off their gaming consoles. The best way to trump this instead of nagging at them all the time is to get a game that forces them to move and be active.

There are some great dance games that you can play as a family and burn calories. The more physically demanding the game, the better for you and the kids. It beats buying games that have them sitting all the time focused on the screen like zombies. A great bonus is that parents get to have some fun with the games too!

Spending time outdoors is healthy for you and is a great way to ensure your children get active. Encourage your children to spend time outdoors by taking walks every day. You can get a dog to ensure that you have to go out each day as dogs enjoy having lots of walks. Make it fun, and they will love it!

It's also a good idea to set apart weekends for hiking and camping trips to get the love of the outdoors into your children. In the process, they will learn a lot about nature and can even pick up a few survival skills if you take the time to teach them.

  1. Use chores to stay active

House chores can be overwhelming when done alone but shared between family members it can become a great bonding time. If you organize yourselves as a household, you can do all the chores and have no need for long hours doing work. House chores are a great way to get active.

You can use a reward scheme to motivate the kids to work. When family members do chores for themselves instead of hiring staff, it means less expenses , makes the children more responsible and lessens the workload on mom and dad. Great for everyone in the family!
