5 Freefall activities for kids

September 15, 2019

The fall season is one of the most beautiful times of the year. It's always lovely to see the leaves changing color, and we all look forward to all the Autumn holidays. However, when the temperatures fall, some outdoor activities may be a bit limited.

It’s a change of pace from summer when you can do all sorts of things outside and enjoy the great weather. But it is still possible to have fun outside with the kids. There are many FREE activities you can enjoy outside with your kids during the fall. Here are a few you can try!

  1. Bonfires, stories, and s’mores

Due to the crisp weather and cool temperatures, Autumn is a great time to light a fire outdoors, bask in the warmth, and have some s’mores. You can tell the kids some fun or scary stories while you do it.

If you don't have any great stories at your fingertips, why not read them some from autumn-themed storybooks. You can also sing songs together, tell each other corny jokes, and generally just have a fun family gathering outside. It will make for some great memories.

  1. Get them excited doing craft activities

If the weather is too chilly, you can still have some fun indoors. Bring out the art supplies and make some fall art.

Teach the kids to create beautiful fall art using the falling leaves. Leaf rubbing or leaf stamping using paint or crayons is a great way to do this. You could also teach them how to make squirrels using toilet paper rolls or make handprint turkeys. Pumpkins are also great for craft and are bountiful during this time of year.

To preserve memories, create a gallery for the kids to hang their art on or better yet, put them in a memory book. You will enjoy looking through the art as it reminds you of precious time with family in years to come when they are all grown up.

  1. Scavenger hunt party

You could also put together a scavenger hunt party for you and other parents to bring their kids together and have some fun. Do it outside, have a barbecue, and serve some warm beverages.

The parents can relax and socialize whiles the kids run around and hunt for clues. It's the ideal time to find out what other parents are preparing their kids for the school season. Or you can just bond with each other and have a good time.

  1. Check out some fall festivals

During Autumn there are always some free fall festivals you can visit. You can find out where they have free fall festivals in your area by checking out notice boards at your church, school, or local tourism office.

When the weather is fair, festivals are a great way to spend a day out with the kids because there is always a lot to see and do. The kids can also learn something from any educational exhibitions. Just don't forget to take lots of pictures of your fun day.

  1. Play

Yes! Just go out and play with the kids. You can play catch, chase each other around, or make a game out of running after the falling leaves. It's also a great time to pile leaves and let the kids jump on them. Most kids love it!

Autumn is also the perfect weather to play sports. You can play football, baseball or basketball with the kids depending on what you like. You can also fly kites or ride bikes around the yard. Anything to get the blood flowing and raise the kid’s moods. The exercise you get from all the fun activity will be a great bonus too.

These are five free activities you can do with your kids this Autumn. Which of them appeal to you? We would also love to hear about any other free autumn activities you do with your kids. Share them with us in the comments.

Have a Great Autumn!
